Lesson 9: Upper Row Both Hands
Mixing: Q W E R & U I O P
Coordinating Both Hands on the Upper Row
Welcome to Lesson 9 at TypingScore.org. You have practiced the left hand (Q, W, E, R) and the right hand (U, I, O, P) separately. Now, it is time to bring them together in a coordinated exercise.
Why Mix Both Hands?
Real-world typing requires constant switching between left and right hands. Words like "power", "require", "quiet", and "picture" use multiple upper row keys from both sides. This lesson trains your brain to alternate between hands smoothly.
Tips for Success
- Rhythm is Key: Do not rush. Maintain a steady tempo, even if it means typing slower.
- Avoid Hand Lifting: Keep both palms hovering over the keyboard. Never lift your hands completely off.
- Eyes on Screen: Resist the urge to look down. Trust the visual keyboard on the screen.
- Home Row Return: After each upper row key, return your finger to the home row before pressing the next key.
Common Mistakes
Beginners often press keys from the wrong hand (e.g., using the left hand to type "U" instead of the right). This happens when you type too fast without building muscle memory first. Slow down, and your accuracy will improve dramatically.
What's Next?
After mastering the Upper Row, you will move to Lesson 10, which is a comprehensive Upper Row Review Test. This test will challenge your speed and accuracy before you advance to the Bottom Row keys.
Take your time with this lesson. It is the bridge between beginner and intermediate typing skills!
