Lesson 6: Home Row Review Test
Challenge: ASDF JKL; Speed Test
Home Row Review Test: Assess Your Skills
Congratulations! You have completed the first five fundamental lessons at TypingScore.org. You have learned the placement of A, S, D, F, J, K, L, and ; keys. Now, it is time for Lesson 6 – The Review Test.
Why Take a Review Test?
Before moving to the Upper Row keys (Q, W, E, R, etc.), it is crucial to verify that your fingers instinctively know the Home Row. This test mixes all the keys you have learned so far. It helps in:
- Identifying Weak Fingers: You might notice that your pinky or ring finger is slower than the others. This test will highlight that.
- Building Confidence: Passing this test means you have successfully built a solid foundation for touch typing.
- Improving Reflexes: The random order of characters forces your brain to react faster without looking at the keyboard.
How to Score High in This Test?
This is a challenge mode. You will notice the interface is red to signify a test environment.
- Relax Your Shoulders: Tension slows you down. Take a deep breath before hitting Start.
- Rhythm Over Speed: Try to type like a metronome (tick-tock-tick-tock). Even spacing between keystrokes is better than bursts of speed followed by pauses.
- Zero Tolerance for Errors: This test forces you to correct your mistakes before moving forward. Accuracy is the key to a high WPM score.
What's Next After This?
Once you are comfortable with the Home Row, you will advance to the Upper Row in Lesson 7. The Upper Row introduces keys like Q, W, E, R, T, Y, U, I, O, and P. But do not rush! Master the Home Row first, as it is the base for reaching all other keys.
Good luck with your test! Aim for 95% accuracy or higher.
